Entrevista con Julio Lamas, entrenador de Argentina/Interview with Julio Lamas, Argentina' head coach

Julio Lamas, entrenador de la selección argentina, preparaba un nuevo entrenamiento de Obras Sanitarias, de cara a la final de la Liga Nacional de Basquet frente a Peñarol. Igualmente, respondió varias preguntas en relación a la selección y a las chances de Argentina en los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres 2012. 

Julio Lamas, Argentina' head coach, was preparing a new training of Obras Sanitarias, facing the end of National Basketball League against Peñarol. Also answered several questions regarding Argentina Team and their chances in 2012 London Olympics.

-Luego del triple fallado por Barea, ¿no sintió un desahogo personal luego de lo ocurrido en su primera etapa como entrenador?

Volví a respirar, je je. Lo que sentí fue un alivio con ese tiro fallado ya que estábamos obteniendo en ese momento la clasificación a Londres y la posibilidad de jugar la final del campeonato.

-After the 3-pointer failed by Barea, did you not feel a relief after what happened in his first stint as coach? 

I went back to breathe, hehe. I felt it was a relief with that missed shot as we were getting at that time the qualifying to London and the chance to play in the finals tournament.

-¿Cómo analiza el grupo que le tocó a Argentina?

El grupo es muy duro. Es el más complicado de los dos. Nosotros vamos con el objetivo de jugar dos partidos por medalla. Para ese camino el grupo es el más difícil y si hacemos buenos resultados podemos obtener un buen cruce. Por el otro lado hubiera sido más sencillo el grupo y podría haber un cruce más difícil. El tema es que tenemos que hacer todo bien durante todo el torneo.
-How do you analyze the group that came to Argentina?

The group is very tough. It is the most complicated of the two. We go in order to play two games for a medal. By this way the group is the most difficult and if we can do good results we can get a good cross. On the other hand it have been easier group and may have a harder cross.The issue is we need to do well during all the tournament.

-Entonces salir segundo o tercero en el grupo es negocio.                  
Segundo sería muy bueno y tercero estaría bien.                                                          
-Then go second or third in the group is a good business.

Second would be great and third would be nice.

-¿Cree usted que se puede ganar una medalla?
Nosotros creemos que podemos pelear por una medalla. Es nuestro objetivo. Sabemos que tenemos que optimizar todos los recursos para poder intentarlo. No vamos como se pudo haber ido en otro momento. Con la certeza de que estábamos dentro de los tres primeros muy lejos del cuarto o del quinto. Hoy estamos más cerca del cuarto o del quinto, más lejos del primer o del segundo pero creemos que podemos obtener una medalla.                                      
-Do you think Argentina can win a medal?

I believe we can fight for a medal. It's our goal. We know we have to optimize all resources to try. We are not going as could have been at another time. With the certainty that we were in the first three positions and far from the fourh or fifth. Today we are closer to the fourth or fifth, and far from the first or second but we believe we can get a medal.

-¿Quién cree que puede ser el equipo revelación?
Francia, Brasil y Lituania.                                                                                         
-Who do you think would be the surprise team?

France, Brazil and Lithuania.

-Teniendo en cuenta la alineación titular que comenzó en Mar del Plata (Prigioni, Ginóbili, Delfino, Nocioni y Scola), ¿cómo va a contrarrestar la falta de centímetros en la zona?
Voy a incluir más cantidad de tiempo a un jugador en posición 5 para que Scola juegue de 4.
-Considering the lineup that started in Mar del Plata (Prigioni, Ginobili, Delfino, Nocioni and Scola), how will you overcome the lack of inches in the zone?
I'll include more of time for a player in position 5 to Scola play in 4.

-¿Cómo van a llegar Delfino y Oberto?                                                                      
De Oberto no sé porque no tengo referencias. De Delfino tampoco sé pero por una lesión no por otra cosa. Carlos es joven, fuerte y si las ocho semanas de recuperación le permiten volver a entrenar el día que comencemos la preparación va a llegar 7 puntos.
-How will Delfino and Oberto get?

From Oberto I don't know because I have no references. From Delfino Idon't know but for an injury not otherwise. Carlos is young, strong and if the eight weeks of recovery allow to re train the day we begin the preparation, he will get 70 %.

-¿Usted lo llamó a Herrmann para la gira?                                                                   
Fue al revés. Él manifestó su deseo de volver a jugar profesionalmente y que si en esta gira podía medirse le vendría bien. Yo lo llamé y como quedamos que sin ningún compromiso posterior ni para mí ni para él, le hice un lugar en esta gira. A nosotros nos venía bien para acompañar a un grupo de jóvenes y a él le viene bien para medirse a cuanto quedó de los jugadores de alto nivel.              
-Did you call Herrmann for the tour?

Was reversed.He expressed his desire to return to play professionallly and if they could be measured on this tour, he could do. I called him and as we agreed that no furthe commitment for me or for him, I made a place on this tour. Came to us well to join a young group and he is good to be measured as was the top players.

-De los jugadores que van a Angola, ¿cuáles son los que ve con mayor proyección?
Marcos D’Elía y Nicolás Laprovíttola. Con los jugadores cuando se habla de proyección hay que adivinar lo que no sucedió. Así que siempre que yo convoco un jugador a la selección es porque creo que puede hacer algo importante.
-Of the players who go to Angola, what are those you seen with more projection?

Marcos D'Elía and Nicolás Laprovittola.When you talk about the player' projection you have to guess what did not happen yet. always, I will call a player the choice is because I believe you can do something important. so whenever I call a player to the team is because I believe he can does something important.


-¿Qué siente haber hecho debutar a Manu Ginóbili y estar presente en los últimos pasos?

Es como una curiosa situación que la considero muy afortunada para mí como entrenador.

-How does it feel to have made the debut of Manu Ginobili in Argentina and be present in the final steps?                                                                                 

It's like a curious situation that is the very lucky for me as a coach.

-Finalmente, ¿qué se siente representar a Argentina en la máxima cita deportiva?

Orgullo, compromiso y responsabilidad.                                                                  

-Finally, how does it feel to represent Argentina in the top sporting event? 

Pride, compromise and responsability.
