Salto inicial para la Liga Nacional

Esta noche con el salto entre Martín Leiva y Daniel Santiago comenzará una nueva edición de la Liga Nacional de Básquetbol. Más precisamente la 29ª temporada. Peñarol-Boca será el partido inaugural de una torneo que, a priori, se vislumbra muy parejo. Hubo muchos regresos a la Liga debido a la crisis que vive Europa y ésto hace que se achiquen las diferencias entre los equipo.

El último campeón, perdón, el tricampeón Peñarol de Mar del Plata mantuvo la base del equipo campeón (de los titulares sólo perdió a Kyle Lamonte) y sumó al ala-pivot Lisandro Rasio, último MVP del TNA con Unión Progresista.

Además de sumar al puertorriqueño Santiago, Boca consiguió el regreso al país de Federico Van Lacke. De Groat y Mc Hopson son dos extranjeros rendidores. También posee una gran variante de pívot como es Marcos D’Elía, una de las mayores promesas del básquet nacional.

Por su parte, Regatas Corrientes sumó el regreso más importante, el olímpico Federico Kammerichs. Y además mantuvo el tándem Martínez-Quinteros. Es un equipo equilibrado que quiere pegar el gran salto y luchar por un lugar en la final.

Lanús sumó al pívot Robert Battle, uno de los más codiciados en el mercado. El conjunto granate mantuvo a la joya del club, Nicolás Laprovíttola, y consiguió el regreso al país de Patricio Prato. Lanús es otro equipo que mantuvo la base y que quiere pegar un salto de calidad.

Obras sufrió cambio de entrenador (Gabriel Picatto por Julio Lamas) pero no hay que subestimarlo. Juan Gutiérrez y Martín Osimani, dos pilares del “Tachero”, continúan en el club. Sumó, entre otros, a David Huertas y Fernando Calvi.

La Unión de Formosa adhirió a su plantilla a los campeones Kyle Lamonte y Nicolás Lauría. Lauría disputó 21 partidos en la última temporada. Además el equipo formoseño cuenta con el retorno a la Liga luego de 10 años de Nicolás Gianella.

Otro equipo que sumó un gran refuerzo es Gimnasia Indalo de Comodoro Rivadavia. El conjunto comodorense había arreglado con David Jackson, que fue el remplazante de Lamonte en Peñarol para los últimos partidos. Jackson fue MVP en la temporada 2008/09 con el equipo marplatense. La apuesta de Gimnasia es Jason Robinson, alero de último paso por el Valladolid en la ACB de España.

Luciano González, nacido en Paraná, va a jugar justamente en Sionista de dicha ciudad. El equipo paranaense también sumó a los extranjeros Meyinsse y Pittman. Sin contar a Pittman, Sionista tiene un equipo muy joven.

Otros regresos importantes fueron los de Diego García (Libertad de Sunchales), Víctor Baldo (Weber Bahía Blanca Estudiantes), Javier Bulfoni (Atenas de Córdoba).

Y también hubo jugadores que cambiaron de equipo como James Williams (de Atenas a Quimsa), Ricky Sánchez (de Estudiantes a Libertad), Tony Washam (de Obras a Regatas)

En mi opinión los principales candidatos a quedar entre los primeros son Peñarol y Regatas. El resto se ve muy apretado. Los cuatro equipos que lucharán por la permanencia son Ciclista Olímpico (La Banda), 9 de Julio (Río Tercero), Argentino (Junín), y Unión Progresista (Villa Ángela).

Comienza la Liga, cuna de los campeones olímpicos, de los cuales Leonardo Gutiérrez, Juan Ignacio Sánchez y Rubén Wolkowyski son los que jugarán la 2012/13.

Luego de tres semanas de su salida conflictiva de Orlando Magic, Dwight Howard le escribió un pequeño anuncio a la ciudad de Orlando y los fanáticos del Magic. El diario Orlando Sentinel publicó este domingo el anuncio del flamante pívot de Los Ángeles Lakers.

Esta Generación se merecía otro final/This Generation deserved a different final

No pudo ser. No se pudo alcanzar el objetivo de alcanzar una medalla. Pero Argentina se va con la frente en alta. Un cuarto puesto en un Juego Olímpico es un enorme mérito. No hay que reprocharle nada a este equipo que entregó el alma en cada partido. Y no sólo en cada partido. Hace 10 años que vienen logrando resultados históricos. Junto con la selección femenina de hockey, el básquetbol es la mejor dinastía de la historia del deporte argentino. Por algo la llaman la "Generación Dorada", luego de la obtención de la medalla de oro en Atenas 2004. Esta generación está llegando a su fin y por eso hay que agradecer por tanto años de protagonismo en el básquetbol mundial.

El técnico ruso pedía tiempo muerto. La siguiente posesión de Rusia era clave para las aspiraciones argentinas. Pero el baldazo de agua fría llegó en el momento clave. Rusia sentenció el partido con un par de libres y un polémico foul no cobrado sobre Pablo Prigioni cuando los rusos ganaban por 1.

Entonces será difícil mantenerse entre los cuatro mejores con la ausencia del mejor basquetbolista de la historia argentina, Emanuel Ginóbili. Hay que esperar un recambio normal en un equipo muy viejo. Pero con los buenos resultados en los últimos Mundiales juveniles, el objetivo de ser protagonista nuevamente debe plantearse para el Mundial 2018.

En el tercer cuarto los estadounidenses desequilibraron el encuentro. Pero Argentina nunca se entregó a pesar de la superioridad del rival. 109 a 83 fue el resultado final y ahora Estados Unidos deberá enfrentar a España, que derrotó a Rusia en la primera semifinal y que en su momento entregó el partido contra Brasil para evitar a EEUU en semifinales. Otra vez el quiebre era en el tercer periodo. El parcial era ganado por EEUU por 27-17.

Dorado es el corazón/Golden is the heart

Se apodan la Generación Dorada. Pero dorado tienen el corazón. ¿Qué  más se puede decir de este equipo?. Un ejemplo de solidaridad, humildad y sacrificio. Era un partido complicado. Por el rival y por el entrenador. El DT brasileño era Rubén Magnano, medalla de oro con Argentina en Atenas 2004. Magnano conocía a la mayoría de los integrantes del plantel y por eso planteó un juego inteligente en defensa, principalmente en la zona pintada. Pero Argentina con su corazón y con su entrega pudo sacar adelante un encuentro muy disputado. Fue 82 a 77 a Brasil, que hizo un buen torneo luego de su ausencia en los últimos tres Juegos Olímpicos.

En ese segmento el nivel bajó y tan solo se anotó un punto mediante un tiro libre. El primer tiempo terminaba 40-46 con ventaja para Argentina.

Era un partido ideal para el descanso de jugadores. Y así lo entendió Lamas. Argentina liquidó el juego en el primer cuarto y luego se encargó de rotar jugadores. Hernán Jasén fue el único jugador que no ingresó. Delfino y Ginóbili jugaron 28 minutos cada uno. Nocioni disputó 26 minutos y Scola 25. Para los próximos partidos tiene que tener en cuenta el horrible primer cuarto que jugó. En los momentos complicados se dependió muchísimo de las máximas figuras como Manu y Scola. Eso en un eventual cruce de cuartos de final lo van a sufrir muchísimo. No le debe pasar lo mismo que hoy si quiere aspirar a medallas porque contra equipo como Brasil o Rusia no hay mucho margen de error.

Generalmente en los comienzos de las distintas competencias no se ve una gran demostración de equipo pero ésta fue la excepción. Un debut sobresaliente de Argentina con una actuación soberbia en ambos costados de la cancha. El antecedente más cercano era el 104-85 a favor de Lituania en el Mundial Turquía 2010 pero esta vez se dio vuelta la historia y fue victoria argentina por 102 a 79 en el primer partido del grupo A de Londres 2012. Los destacados (en el costado ofensivo) en el equipo argentino fueron los NBA Luis Scola, Emanuel Ginóbili y Carlos Delfino.
